Launching a new journal: Biological Diversity

Cover of the first issue of the new journal Biological Diversity

I’m happy to announce the launch of a new, not-for-profit, journal, Biological Diversity. It is published on behalf of South China Botanical Garden by the respected academic publisher, Wiley, https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/journal/29944139

Biological Diversity is a new, open access journal specializing in research that explores biodiversity conservation and the sustainable use of resources. It integrates botanical, zoological, microbiological, taxonomic, phylogenetic, genomic, ecological, climatological, economic, and sociological disciplines, focusing on innovative scientific research and methodological and theoretical innovations in the field of biodiversity, as well as real-time policy theories and implications for socio-economic values.

The journal welcomes basic and applied research on genetic, species and ecosystem diversity at multiple scales. We will publish a range of primary science, review and perspective articles, and aim to become the go-to journal for the area. Special and focus issues are being planned now!

In April 2024, we had our first Editorial Group meeting, and published the first six manuscripts.

The Chief Editor is Professor Hai Ren, Director of the South China Botanical Garden, Chinese Academy of Science. He is an expert in Restoration and Landscape Ecology, including the reconstruction of degraded ecosystems in the tropics and sub-tropics. More of his publications are listed at NCBI, covering the role of botanical gardens, carbon fixation, and tropical forest ecology. Pat Heslop-Harrison is co-Chief Editor, with research interests as covered on the current www.molcyt.org website, encompassing genome evolution and agricultural genomics. The Editorial Board includes many notable and active researchers in biological diversity, covering all aspects from molecular and taxonomic, through environment and social impacts, with studies of all kingdoms, animal, fungal, plant and viral.

Submissions and refereeing use the popular ScholarOne/ManuscriptCentral system which is simple, and many scientists will be very familiar with already! The ‘Contribute’ dropdown menu in the line under the image on the Biological Diversity homepage details scope, the submission process and guidelines. Currently, for those without Institutional Agreements with Wiley already, publication is free of charge.

You can sign up to receive notifications about the papers published with e-mail alerts on the right-hand side near the top of the homepage.
